History
A transition area between the Wetland and the lake,
heavily overgrown with rhododendron and lightly interspersed with willow,
alder, oak and holly.
Wildlife Value
Minimal. Prior to restoration the value to wildlife was
very poor owing to the dominance of rhododendron. This
highly invasive species is not native and renders areas ecologically sterile.
Intention
To create a semi-marshland area with associated
species.
Method
1) Clearance of rhododendron.
2) Coppice willow.
3) Leave alder, oak and holly standards.
4) Augment willow by extensive planting to encourage invertebrates.
5) Encourage water run-off from Wetland Area to maintain high water table. |
