Goldcrest       Regulus regulus

Appearance The smallest British bird, tiny but decidedly rotund, with a shortish tail. The crown has a distinctive golden-orange blaze, bordered by black. The face is plain with large dark eye. The back is olive-green, the wings black with a white wingbar. The underparts are buffy white. The juvenile lacks the golden blaze on the crown. The birds are ever-active and flick their wings continuously during a non-stop search for food among trees.  Size: 8.5-9cm tall
Voice High-pitched zi-zi-zi-zi. repeated. The song is similar but ending in a flourish.
Habitat Gardens, heaths and woods.
Food Insects and spiders.
Breeding Habits 7-10 eggs in a cup-like nest high in trees.  Incubation takes 14-17 days and fledging takes 16-21 days. 
2 broods; April-May.
Location in Wet Woodland Seen in the stony area and the bluebell area.  These areas contain many trees to feed on. It was mainly observed feeding with mixed flocks of tits, nuthatches and treecreepers.
