Plant zonation in
a wetland is related to the quantity of
standing water at any one point. Some species prefer the drier areas, such as Silver
Birch. Species such as Bog Bean grow in open water, whereas Yellow Iris
is intermediate between these two extremes. This is illustrated in the diagram below
showing the results from Belt Transect 2 E/W through the Offwell Wetland. |
