Broad-leaved Pondweed

wpeC.jpg (19848 bytes) Pondweed grows completely submerged in shallow water. It is rooted on the bottom.

It provides shelter and food for a whole host of minibeasts such as tadpoles, Mayfly larvae and Caddisfly larvae. Both of these types of animals are herbivores and will be feedling on the weed, as well as sheltering in it. Great Diving Beetle and dragonfly larvae, as well as Sticklebacks, are just some of the many small predators which will also be found here.
