Stony Area

stony2.JPG (1222568 bytes)

General Description of Survey Area

The Stony Area lies on a gentle east facing slope.   It is fairly open and dry with shallow soil.  Much of the ground is made of loose chert rubble.  The ground level plants are quite sparse and there are scattered mature trees.  Strong summer sunlight penetrates to ground level where it gets quite hot and dry in places.
