Spindle

Euonymus europaeus

So named for the traditional use of its wood in spindles for looms, the Spindle Tree is capable of growing to 6 metres in height, but is normally found as a small bush in scrubland on calcareous soils. The stems have grey and green bark. Leaves are oval, pointed and bright green. Clusters of small pale green flowers appear in May. The characteristic bright pink fruits containing the seeds mature in September and October.
