Coast Redwood Sequoia sempervirens |
|||||||
This evergreen typically reaches 30-40 metres in Britain (although introduced only 130 years ago). In North America, it grows to well over 100 metres. The tallest living tree is a Coast Redwood of 112 metres. The straight trunk is covered in a thick spongy red bark. The stems are covered with scale leaves and have twigs with stiff dark green needles. The underside of each needle has two white stripes. |
