At Cardiff the weather stayed wet and windy almost all day. The lowest temperature (8°C) was recorded at 09:00hr when there was torrential rain and a light NE wind. At 11:00hr, the temperature rose by 1°C and the rain had stopped. By 13:00hr, a further increase of 0.25°C to 9.25°C occurred, accompanied by heavy rain and thick cloud. The temperature continued to rise through the day to a maximum of 10.25°C at 19:00 hours, during the afternoon the cloud cover gradually thinned. At Offwell the weather was similar to that at Cardiff. There was rain and wind all day apart from the early afternoon when the cloud cleared briefly. The lowest temperature of 11.5°C occurred at 07:00hr. The temperature gradually rose to a maximum of 15°C at 13:00hr as the cloud cover thinned, with the possibility of some sunshine. During the afternoon the cloud cover thickened again and the temperature gradually dropped to 12.5°C at 19:00hr. The weather at both sites was similar, and at neither site did the temperature alter very much during the day. The temperature changed by only 2.25°C at the Cardiff site during the 12 hour experimental period; the lowest was 8°C and the highest 10.25°C. At Offwell the overall temperature range for the day was 3.5°C, from 11.5°C to 15°C. In both places, when the rain was lighter or the cloud thinner, the air temperature rose. Interestingly, the minimum temperature at Offwell was greater than the maximum temperature at Cardiff.
