Wet Woodland
|
Woodland plant species growing in moist soil near the stream are quite different from those growing in drier areas of the
Reserve. This in turn means that animal species living in this habitat will also be
different. Much of the tree canopy here is Alder and Willow which prefer damp soil
conditions. Underneath the canopy, the air is noticeably damper and cooler. In
the dappled light, the ground flora consists mainly of ferns, nettles, Pendulous sedge and
grasses, but these are increasingly in competition with Bramble. This type of wet
riverine lowland woodland is known as Carr. |
