A Spikelet of False Oat Grass, Arrhenatherum elatius
The spikelets of False Oat
Grass usually contain two florets. For ease of identification the parts of the right-hand
floret have been labelled with the number 1. The parts of the left-hand floret have been
labelled 2. The lemmas are awned. One of the lemmas has a much longer awn than the other. In this species, the lower (left-hand) floret (2) is usually male, while the upper is bisexual. In the image below, the lower floret is missing its stamens. |
