Wood Pigeon Columba palumbus
Appearance | A large pigeon, different from others because of a white neck flash and
broad white bar across open wings. It is grey above, pinkish below. In flight, part of the
wing is black. The tail is grey with a thick black band at the end of it. Size: 39-43cm tall |
Voice | Coo-coo-coo-cu-coo, repeated endlessly. |
Habitat | Forests, woods, fields, hedges, towns, gardens and heaths. |
Food | Crops, seeds and grain. |
Breeding Habits | 2 eggs on a twig platform in a tree. Incubation takes 17 days and
fledging takes 29-35 days. 3 broods per year; April-June. |
Location in Wet Woodland | It was heard once from just outside the wet woodland. It may well be seen in the wet woodland area. |
