Volunteers cut the new
trail through the hazel coppice area to create a circular walk, and burn up the arisings.
The clearance has increased the amount of light that falls on the woodland floor and the
bluebells, violets and foxgloves have sprung up. Evidence for the presence of dormice has
been found by looking for hazelnuts which the dormice eat in a very distinctive way, it is
hoped that by increasing the amount of light in the woods more suitable dormouse habitat
will be created. |
